How Far Can You Go?
Hey all - many apologies for not being here over the past few months. I continue to be (sort of) active over at the main blog, and have various writing projects going.
I’m stopping by today to let you know about the latest podcast episode for the FYI Podcast that I do with Chris Barnett.
Last season, we focused on movies, and this year our attention is turning to books. We’re counting down 10 Novels That Changed Our Lives.
And my first book is quite relevant to this space:
I wrote about the first episode here, but TL:DR is that my #10 is David Lodge’s Souls and Bodies (US title) or How Far Can You Go? (Far superior UK title). His is Updike’s In the Beauty of the Lilies - the connection between the novels being that they both explore the loss of - or at least dramatic change in - faith against a backdrop of profound cultural and social change.
Lodge’s novel, I think is crucial for anyone who wasn’t around at the time and who wants to understand the post-Vatican II period.

The article I wrote for Church Life Journal on the novel.
See you…some time, I hope!
